La Paz is a photographer's dream and a kid's (of all ages) paradise. It has the largest butterfly garden in Costa Rica, the largest aviary in Costa Rica, an orchid garden, a frog exhibit, snake exhibit, bromiliad garden and an amazing hummingbird garden.  Not to mention waterfalls, hiking trails and a traditional casita. Option 1: A Day at La Paz

La Paz Waterfall

Spend the day wandering through the elaborate gardens and animal displays. Guided or self-guided tours are available.

We've included lunch with all of the tours because it's really nice to not have to leave the park to eat.

The Guided tour includes:

  • Round-trip transport from your San Jose hotel to / from the Gardens
  • Bi-lingual guided tour of the park and its gardens
  • Buffet lunch
  • Admission to the park and all taxes
  • Private tours can be arranged too. Prices available upon request.
  • Departs Daily, pick-ups start at 10 am, return to your hotel between 5 and 6 pm.

Option 2: Poas Volcano, Coffee Tour & La Paz Combo

This tour will pick you up from your San Jose hotel and take you up into the mountains and visit a traditional coffee plantation where breakfast and fresh coffee will be served.  Here you will learn how coffee is grown, harvested and processed.

Then, we're off to the cloud forests of Poas Volcano National Park where it's just a short walk to the active crater. Along the way there are many interesting plants and birds to be spotted. A little later, we'll stop off at La Paz Waterfall Gardens for the duration of the afternoon. Here there are numerous living exhibits including an enormous butterfly garden (one of the largest in the world) and a huge aviary where parrots, macaws and all kinds of song birds are within arms reach. There are also trails for hiking, waterfalls and several gardens.  (butterfly garden, aviary, hummingbird garden, orchid garden, frog and snake exhibits, waterfalls and a wild cat exhibit)
