Manzanillo
Is there gold at the end of the potholed road from Puerto Viejo? Yeap, and you just struck it! Manzanillo is an idyllic spot for clear waters, snorkeling and pristine beaches.
Bit of History
This slow growing village is only 250 years old. It was originally discovered and
settled by fishermen looking for the hawksbill sea turtle. The entire village of Manzanillo is located inside the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. The local dialect of the natives is Patios but everyone also speaks Spanish with a thick Caribbean accent. In 1980 electricity arrived and in 2000 the first phone landlines were put in. It remains a rather undeveloped town literally at the end of the road.
