It could be the political changes going on in the world, especially my country the United States, but today, I'm reminded of the words of one of our greatest presidents when he visited Costa Rica on March 20, 1963.
"We also want to express our thanks to the people of Costa Rica. Every one of us will go home with the most profound impression of what a strong, vital people can accomplish. And I think that this journey to Costa Rica has illuminated the minds of 180 million people of what a great opportunity and privilege we have to be associated together in our common cause.
Viva Costa Rica. Arriba Costa Rica. Muchas Gracias."
One of the wonderful things about Costa Rica is that it is a truly successful constitutional democracy. Under Costa Rica's 1949 constitution, all citizens are guaranteed equality before the law, the right to own property, the right of petition and assembly, freedom of speech and the right of habeas corpus. Thomas Jefferson would be proud to see a small country flourish so well, based on the basic principles of freedom that he and his colleagues set forth.
Like Kennedy, we're also thankful to the people of Costa Rica for building a country that is such a wonderful place on earth. If it weren't for them, Costa Rica could be the most beautiful place on earth, but we could never enjoy it as freely as we are able.
So, from all of us here at MuchaCostaRica.Com - Viva Costa Rica. Arriba Costa Rica. Muchas Gracias!
