Punta Leona came as a huge surprise to me. It is probably the closest beach to my house and it only took me five years to get there! But I finally made it and wow! What a place. This is one of the oldest private resorts in Costa Rica with private accessibility to two beaches. Rumor has it that they are not private, but beats me if I know how to get in past the beautiful guard house that stands at the entrance way.
Once you get past the six extra diligent, hardworking guards, you enter a world of manicured, cobble-stoned paradise. Inside are two huge pools, one for lazy adults and another specifically for kids. And these days I rate the greatness of hotels' amenities by how long they can keep my son occupied without bothering me, and I have to say this one comes out to the highest rank. My little guy stayed in the safe pool practically all day, while I chilled out and didn't worry if he was going to drown.
I love beaches (from afar), as well. I'm not a big fan of waves, cause I'm scared my son will be swept away and I'll be left completely impotent on the shoreline, but once again this resort wins the prize for kid friendliness. Its calm, crystal waters are a huge relief to me. My son can sit in the water while I wallow away on a comfy lounge chair under a big palm tree in the shade.
Let's face it, family travel is great when EVERYONE is happy. So when the kids are fully occupied and safe, mama and papa can actually have fun too!
