Corcovado Tours - Overnight Expeditions
Get down and dirty and explore the heart of Corcovado's wild jungles on a multi-day guided excursion. Staying overnight at any of the stations and exploring the numerous trails in the park is a wonderful way to see TONS of wildlife including pumas (in Sirena)... if you're lucky!
Choose to hike (escorted by a naturalist guide) from one of the ranger stations (San Pedrillo, Los Patos or La
Leona (Carate)) fly, take a boat or a combination of these options into Sirena. Then spend a few days exploring the elaborate network of trails in Sirena.
The easiest way to do it is by boat or flight to Sirena. Hiking in is more cost effective, but very challenging physically.
Please note: Hiking trips are NOT for the faint of heart or body. The jungle is full of bugs, snakes and other creepy crawlies, it's hot, many of the trails go along the beach with no shade for miles and miles, not to mention the weight of your backpack adding to the difficulty.
There are simple lodging facilities in Sirena (cot, but you must bring your own sheets and towels). All of the other stations are camping only and ALL require advance reservations . Meals are available in Sirena only, and again by advance reservation only.
We will only book or arrange trips that include a naturalist guide escort. No matter how strong you think you are, getting lost in the jungle (trails are poorly marked) is not fun. Many trails involve river crossings that are tide dependent and crossing at the wrong time can lead to unwanted encounters with bull sharks and crocodiles.
Still want to go???
We would love to help you! Let us help you arrange a Corcovado overnight expedition! Just let us know where you will be and how many days you would like to spend in the jungle, and we will set it up for you.
If this seems a bit extreme for you, check out a day

Option 4: TWO nights in Sirena with circuit hike from Los Patos-Sirena-La Leona (southern entrances)
About the hike f rom Los Patos Station:
For folks in the Puerto Jimenez area, this is the way to go for you.
The Los Patos Station is the eastern entrance to the park accessed from
Guadalupe - 7kms from La Palma which is the closest main town on that
end of the park. Depart Puerto Jimenez in the early morning and travel
to La Palma or
Guadalupe where you will begin walking from the small village of
Guadalupe near the Guaymi Indian reservation and it is a wet three-hour
walk from Guadalupe to the ranger station, as you cross the Rincon River
many times. Taxis are available for this journey during the dry
season. The actual La Palma ranger station is about 45 minutes inside
the park from the boundary.
Continue on from here to Sirena. (Los Patos to Sirena: 20km, 12.5 miles,
9hours approx.): This is an inland trail traversing
steep ravines and primary forest. It is mostly flat for the last 15
km, but the first 5km after the Sirena River traverses several ridges
with steep climbs and descents. River crossings include the Sirena and
Pavo Rivers. Approximately, it is a 8-10 hour hike.
About the hike from Sirena to La Leona Station:
Sirena Ranger Station to La Leona Ranger Station Trail
(16km, 10 miles, 7 hours approx.): This is a hot beach hike requiring
careful timing in regards to river crossings and tides. There are a few
rocky outcroppings you can either cross over at low tide or look for a
trail that goes inland around the rocks. The trail goes inland and
parallels the beach under the shade of the forest canopy as you
approach the La Leona Station. Always keep an eye out for crocodiles
when crossing the rivers. It is approximately a seven hour walk.
As you leave Sirena you will first cross the Rio Claro
and continue walking on the beach for a little while until the trail
picks up again under the shelter of the forest to Salsipuedes. After
Salsipuedes, you will walk on the beach for 40 min – 1hr. to La Chancha
Point. When its high tide, look for the short trail that crosses
inland, but when its low tide you can walk on the beach. Cross the La
Chancha river (it's very small), and after the river, walk on the beach
again for 30 minutes or so. When its high tide, there are lots of
rocks—try to cross here a at low tide too. The trail picks up again in
the forest and it's another 6km to La Leona. You can walk on the beach
from the Madrigal River to La Leona at low tide if you want. Trail
ends at the station.
Includes for 2 people or more:
Round-trip transport from Puerto Jimenez to the starting point in Guadalupe (closest town to Los Patos) and from La Leona (Carate) to Puerto Jimenez at the end of the trip
2 nights lodging in park (cots if available)
Dinner for 2 nights
Entrance fees for 3 days
Naturalist guide (English speaking)
Total Cost:
$325 per person (minimum 2) with option to add in:
Shuttle from Dominical to Puerto Jimenez $33 per person
Hotel in Puerto Jimenez (starting at $15 per night)
And Shuttle to San Jose from Puerto Jimenez $42 per person
Book Now or Inquire for more info!
Option 5: ONE night in Sirena with hike to and from La Leona - Sirena (southern entrances)
Depart Puerto Jimenez at 6.00am with your guide via a 4-wheeldrive car and travel across the peninsula to to Playa Carate. This drive is an adventure in itself and we will make a few stops along the way. Arrive in Carate about 2 hours later and begin walking on the beach. The La Leona entrance station is about 1 hour away.
Then we will begin our hike to Sirena ranger station. Your guide will explain a lot about the tropical forest ecology and during the hike you will have a chance to see lots of wildlife. The hike to Sirena from La Leona is approximately 6-7 hours (it's a hot hike mostly along unshaded beach). Stay one night at Sirena biological ranger station and return the next day after breakfast to La Leona.
Includes for 2 people or more:
