No, I'm not! The road trip from the Central Valley to ANYWHERE in Guanacaste, with kids, is grueling and long. So whenever I can take a detour to stimulate my son and let him burn off some of his restless energy, I jump at the opportunity. However, when I pulled over to the popular Monteverde restaurant along the Panamerican Highway, the last thing I thought I'd find would be a dinosaur park.
Connected to the restaurant is the Megafauna Park. At the entrance stands an intimidating, 30-foot T-Rex with a batch of eggs that are in the process of hatching. The entrance fee to the actual park, which is defined with a well marked trail, is minimal. Plus you can rent a little golf cart to drive through it. At every 25 to 50 meters stands a different prehistoric giant inviting crazy kids to hop on it and roar at it. But beware, although the dinos are harmless the mosquitoes will eat you up! Bring lots of repellent and you'll be just fine.
This is also a great day trip outside of San Jose with a combination of the Puma Rescue Center, the Puntarenas Aquarium and the Orchid Gardens. Contact me for more information for a great way to spend a couple of hours or a full day.
